Tax Information

Your 2012 RIMS dues are 60% tax deductible as a professional business expense. The remaining 40% is not tax deductible, in that it reflects the proportion of RIMS’ income from dues earmarked for influencing legislation in the coming year.

Similarly, your 2012 AMA dues are 40% tax deductible as a professional business expense, and the remaining 60% is not tax deductible.

For federal income tax purposes, dues and contributions to RIMS or AMA are not deductible as charitable contributions.

If you pay your 2012 dues in 2011 and do your accounting on a cash rather than accrual basis, you will need the above tax information in preparing your 2011 tax return. Otherwise, you will not need it until you calculate 2012 returns.
